Cambridge has excellent bus routes throughout the city center and into outlying villages. A bicycle is an excellent investment for those studying for longer periods, as most places in Cambridge are less than 20mins apart by bike, this offers a quick and free method of transport.
Given the high demand, there are a number of quality bike shops in Cambridge, as well as many options for second-hand and rental to suit your needs. Ask in the International Office for more advice.
By train, Cambridge is only 1 hour from London King’s Cross, from there you can travel on the underground across London. A return train ticket to London costs approx. £25 but is much cheaper during off-peak hours and on Sundays.
There is a direct train from Cambridge station to London Stansted Airport, running hourly which costs around £10 one way.
National Express bus services run from Parker’s Piece to Heathrow and Gatwick airports and cost between £15-£30.
During your induction we will ask you to register with the police and with a local doctor’s surgery. You will then be able to make appointments to visit your GP with non-emergency medical issues.
In an emergency, dial 999. The operator can then direct you to Police, Ambulance, or Fire Department. The International Office has an 24hr Emergency Number to call if you need any emergency help during your stay.
If you have an accident but do not require an ambulance e.g non-life threatening, you should visit the Accident & Emergency Department of Addenbrookes Hospital.
Along with cinemas, bowling, and theatres, Cambridge has an excellent restaurant scene especially within the city centre, pop into the International Office and we can give some recommendations!
Cambridge also has lots of fascinating museums where you can easily lose yourself for an afternoon. Most of the Museums will regularly put on new exhibitions and almost all are free to visit.
