Everything we do is focused on nurturing the next generation of Cambridgeshire
talent, and we are able to do even more when we gain fantastic support from businesses and employers from across the region.
As more industries are experiencing skills gaps, we are looking for more employers to work with us on developing the future workforce to meet the sector’s growing demands.
Any size employer can get involved with supporting our students through their learning journey. We have a dedicated placement team who will be able to help you support a student that best fits your business. Depending on the support programme you choose, there are different requirements and our team can help you explore the different options.
Hiring young apprentices brings fresh ideas to your team and allows you to train them for the skills your business requires, filling skill gaps and developing loyal employees.
We provide level 2, 3, 4 & 5 apprenticeships in a range of disciplines: Business, Catering & Hospitality, Child, Health & Social Care, IT & Computing, Digital Marketing, Construction, Engineering, Hair & Beauty and Motor Vehicle.
Hiring an apprentice would require you to take a young person on for a minimum contract of 12 months whilst they complete their programme. During this time they would be working for you full time, with 20% of their hours put aside for studying or attending class.
We work closely with employers to inform the skills our students develop throughout their programme, including providing them with direct experiences of the workplace.
Are you looking to support the training of your future workforce?
We always welcome contacts from employers interested in engaging with our students. Your role is vital in helping them develop skills relevant to local industries, so we have a range of options for you to get involved, whatever your capacity.
Work experience
Work experience plays an essential role in developing the confidence of learners in the workplace. It is through the positive engagement of employers offering work experience that our students can put their classroom-based learning into practice.
Could you be a work experience host?
Work experience is an important element of learning and development for students; one that contributes towards their future employment. After all, today’s work experience candidates are tomorrow’s employees. Work experience provides learners with a better understanding of the workplace, boosting their confidence, and allowing them to engage with their local business community in a positive way.
How can work experience benefit your business
It’s not just the work experience candidate that benefits from a positive placement – your business, your colleagues, the local community, and wider UK economy benefits as well. Work experience can:
Support staff with outstanding or on-going projects
Provide a fresh and new perspective into your work practices especially with new technology and social media that some young people are more familiar with
Develop supervisory, mentoring and managerial skills within your workforce
Provide an opportunity to trial a candidate with the prospect of them going into full-time employment or an apprenticeship at a later date – saving on expensive recruitment fees
Enhance your business’ reputation within the local community, helping to create a positive public profile
Promote workforce diversity
What is a T Level?
T Levels are a Level 3 programme equivalent to A Levels, designed in collaboration with employers to prepare students with the technical and practical skills for industry.
What do Industry Placements entail?
All T Levels include a substantial industry placement as a mandatory part of the qualification. These are a minimum of 45 days (315 hours), although may vary by subject area. This works is unpaid unless the employer would like to contribute toward travel expenses.
When do Industry Placements take place?
Students will only be expected to work at their placements during term time. These may be scheduled in block weeks, or regularly throughout the college year, depending on the subject area.
How can you get involved?
An industry placement can be a valuable way to directly contribute towards the training and development of a young person. Students who complete an industry placement often progress to apprenticeships or employment with the same company, having already developed many of the skills to do the job and with the confidence that they are the right fit for the company culture.
We appreciate that not all employers are able to provide 315 hours placement opportunity over the academic year, but are interested in working with Cambridge Regional College. We would love to hear from you!
We are always looking for industry experts to share their experiences with our students, either at the College, or better still, at your premises. It all helps to develop our learners’ employability skills, which in turn benefits business.
We work with employers who commit to shorter placements of a few hours or a couple of weeks. Employers who have opportunities for one student, through to groups of students over fixed or flexible timescales.
Placements can be across various departments within your organisation and industry wide. We also welcome Site Visits, Guest Speakers, Masterclasses, Live Projects set and judged by local employers, and Placements leading to part/full time jobs.
Our employers are key to our future workforce and by providing a placement or working with CRC you are building the skills of the future. It will allow you to trial the abilities of a potential employee or apprentice and directly support their training in the skills your business needs.
It is our mission to help young people become work ready so that they can complete their qualification with us and head straight into employment if they wish to do so. In order to ensure that we are teaching the right skills we look to local employers to provide feedback on our curriculum and give you the opportunity to have your say on what and how we teach our students.
We often hold several big events a year and we offer local businesses the opportunity to sponsor and support them. A variety of different packages are available to suit all shapes and sizes of business and budget.
Our events are usually a mixture of Careers Fairs, Community Fun Days, Apprenticeship Awards and our large graduation ceremony at the end of each academic year.
In return for being a sponsor of the College we recognise this in our advertising and online presence, providing you with extensive brand exposure.
