Animation & Games Development - Cambridge Regional College

Animation & Games Development

SEARCH FOR A COURSE
Search for a Career

At Cambridge Regional College, we offer two distinct courses: Animation and Games Development. Both are built for students who want hands-on, industry-focused training, but they lead to different roles and different creative lanes.
If you love visual storytelling, character/world design, and building a portfolio you’re proud of, this is where you start. Whether you want to animate characters, design worlds, or develop playable experiences, you’ll learn using real production workflows and the tools used by professionals.

What’s the difference?

Animation

A portfolio-driven course for artists and storytellers who want to create characters, environments and sequences for animation, games and screen media. Expect concept art, storyboarding, animation principles, and developing a strong personal style while learning professional pipelines.

Games Development

A production-focused course for students who want to design and build games. Expect playable prototypes, iteration, testing, teamwork, and developing the technical and creative skills needed for development roles.

Why study at CRC?
  • Work on live industry-style projects – game prototypes, animation sequences, studio briefs, and portfolio milestones
  • Learn from active industry professionals – tutors with real-world experience in animation, games production, and creative tech
  • One of a small number of UK college developers for Xbox & Nintendo Switch – gain hands-on experience in real console game development
  • Rizing Games – our in-house studio – work in a professional development environment and publish your own games
  • Specialist facilities – high-spec creative workstations, production software, and spaces built for making (not just theory)
  • Exceptional progression – students progress into games, animation, VFX, concept art, creative tech, apprenticeships and higher education.
What you’ll learn

You’ll develop the practical skills that employers and universities actually look for:

  • Idea generation, research and development (with clear visual evidence of process)
  • Core production workflows: planning, iteration, feedback, versioning, and refinement
  • Professional presentation: showreels, portfolios, development logs, and pitching your work
  • Collaboration and deadlines: working like a studio, not like a classroom
  • This isn’t just a course, it’s a launchpad into animation and games pipelines.
