Students’ Union President donates hair to Little Princess Trust

On Tuesday 14th December, Students’ Union President, Nathan Smith had his hair cut off for the charity, Little Princess Trust.

Ahead of the cut, Nathan raised awareness of his charity challenge so that students at both campuses could watch live, either in person or via You Tube as he had his hair cut off and head shaved. Hairdressing Lecturer, Samantha Green took her scissors to four separate ponytails of Nathan’s hair at the Cambridge Campus before getting out the clippers to give Nathan a full head shave.

Nathan said, “I was inspired by a friend at school who had their hair cut off for charity. It made me realise that I could get involved in supporting a charity too, so I started growing my hair. It has been approximately four years since I last had my hair cut and, with my hair now being over 20 inches in length, I feel it is time. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I am excited to see what it is like having hair at the other end of the scale, with a number 1 head shave.”

Nathan’s hair was around 21 inches long before the cut and he will now donate this to support a child or young person who has lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions, by donating his hair to Little Princess Trust. Following the cut, Nathan had his head shaved, raising more than £100 for the charity.

Director of Student Experience, Emily Bennett, said, “Nathan has done a very brave and selfless thing, not only in donating his hair to the Little Princess Trust, but in doing so in the public eye to raise additional funds for the charity. We are very proud of the courage and excellence that Nathan has demonstrated.”

If you would like to support Nathan in reaching his charity challenge target if £500, donations can be made on his Just Giving page, https://bit.ly/3xHdtCl.
