Information for Parents – Careers Support at CRC

As part of our mission to transform lives and create prosperity, students and apprentices have access to careers education, information, advice and guidance throughout their studies at CRC. We work closely with employers and labour market information to inform our curriculum design to enable students and apprentices to develop industry-relevant skills. We also have a comprehensive Personal Development Strategy (rated Ofsted GOOD) which supports students and apprentices to develop personally and professionally alongside their core curriculum.

How do students and apprentices receive careers information, advice and guidance?

  • As part of their weekly tutorial programme, via 1:1 tutorials and TMail.
  • Resources available in LRCs and online via the VLE.
  • Opportunities to engage with employers and higher education providers through events, guest speakers and work experience.
  • Annual Careers Fairs and Higher Education Showcases.
  • Access to impartial careers information, advice and guidance at any point during their studies.

What is careers guidance?

Personal guidance is impartial 1:1 support from a qualified Careers Adviser.

Meetings usually last up to an hour and can be arranged on a one-off basis or as a plan for ongoing support.

Meetings can be arranged in person at either CRC campus, via telephone or online via Microsoft Teams.

Personal guidance is led by the student, to help them work through careers decisions, explore options and work towards goals.

This might include a range of topics, such as course choices, long term career goals, apprenticeships, employment, higher education, identifying skills, creating effective applications and more.

How do students access careers guidance?

– Students can call 01223 226315 or email to arrange a careers guidance appointment.
– Students can drop in to the Hub at scheduled IAG drop in times to chat to advisors or arrange ongoing support.
– Students can ask their tutor to refer them for careers guidance. They will then be contacted by an advisor.

Can I accompany the student in my care to their careers guidance appointment?

Careers guidance is ideally on a 1:1 basis where students have the opportunity to work through their own careers decisions.

That said, sometimes students benefit from a little support to access careers guidance. Parents and carers are welcome to attend appointments, providing this is with the consent of the student.

If the student in your care needs some support to arrange an appointment, please contact us on 01223 226315. We will need to verify your identity and speak to the student directly to obtain their consent.
