Huntingdon Campus Art & Design students work experience a great success

Art & Design students from Cambridge Regional College’s Huntingdon Campus have done an amazing job of kick-starting their new work experience model.

Setting the bar extremely high, 95% of learners completed the required 36 hours of work experience hours in the creative industry, with placements ranging from working in a tattoo studio as an artist, window dresser/merchandiser in a high street store, photography assistant in the Kodak shop and Teaching Assistant in Creatives Arts at a local secondary school, to name but a few.

Three groups of students working for Action for Children at Woodland Lodge Children’s home in Huntingdon were given an employer brief to create murals based on three different themes. The students had to sketch out their designs for approval by the registered manager and her team ahead of painting the murals – a huge task to undertake, whilst considering the impact of the children’s sensory overload.

The project kicked off with the Huntingdon students looking at a number of blank walls and considering the young children’s experience whilst living at Woodland Lodge students to set the scene for the murals. Both students and tutors worked hard to ensure the murals were completed within the set time frame.

The children and staff at Woodland Lodge were blown away by the students’ amazing artistic creations. “These art creations will make a huge difference to our children, the artwork has made a real impact to our home and the children will be able to enjoy them for many years to come”, said Charlotte Moreton from Action For Children.

Sarah Fielding, Work Experience Co-ordinator commented “Well done to everyone involved in ensuring Art & Design’s work experience was successful, meaningful and beneficial to both students, employers and the local community! I am sure you will agree when visiting the Lodge that our Huntingdon Campus Art & Design students have done an outstanding job.”
