Cambridge Regional College is proud to be part of the initiative that helped Cambridge achieve a Gold Sustainable Food Places Award. The award was given to the Cambridge Sustainable Food Partnership who work on behalf of the city.

The Cambridge Sustainable Food Partnership is a network of organisations, businesses, local authorities, community groups and volunteers working together to build a fairer, more sustainable local food system that better meets the needs of local communities.

The Gold award represents ten years of work by this network which was coordinated by Cambridge Sustainable Food CIC and the Cambridge Food Partnership.

On 11 March members of the Cambridge Food Partnership held an event to celebrate this achievement and receive the award from Sustainable Food Places. They were joined by The Mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Jenny Gawthrope Wood.

Cambridge Regional College runs catering, hospitality and culinary arts courses and apprenticeships for learners aged 16+. Healthy eating and sustainability are central to these courses, as well as to our wider training programmes.

We follow a farm to fork approach. Local food experts come in and present to our students and we have trackability in place for sustainability purposes to monitor our carbon footprint.

Students run The Park restaurant, café and bakery and supported learning students can undertake placements at venues including St John’s College. Apprentices work in catering establishments across the region and take part in activities like the CRC Apprentice Takeover of the Gonville Hotel which happened as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

The Sustainable Food Places Awards celebrates the pioneering work of places taking a holistic approach to ensuring sustainable and healthy food is available to everyone. Cambridge is only the third place in the UK to receive this honour.
