Iulia Dumintru initially joined CRC to complete her GCSEs and study music and it was during these studies that she received advice and guidance from the careers team in respect of her onwards journey. Iulia went on to apply for the Access to Higher Education in Business and spent a further year studying a range of business modules that she thoroughly enjoyed, not least because of the support and feedback she received from tutors, particularly during lockdown.
While studying at CRC, Iulia worked as a student representative for the International department, participated in the student meeting with College Governors where she delivered a presentation, took advantage of the NUS offer of having a week in Brussels visiting the EU Parliament and volunteered in the College Marketing dept. These are all steps that demonstrate that Iulia constantly reflects on her performance and achievement and reviews her direction utilising every opportunity that is made available to her.
As Iulia approached the end of her studies with CRC, she applied for a degree in Accounting at Queen Mary London. In September, Iulia joined the new cohort of Access to HE Business learners, via a Zoom call, to share the story of her journey and offer advice and support to those taking the same steps she had taken just twelve months before.
After providing answers to questions such as ‘what were the assessments like’ and ‘how did you cope with improving your English alongside your studies’, Iulia offered some advice on how to stay focused, plan and manage time effectively and the importance of researching your subject, before extending her support as a mentor to any students that would like to stay in touch.
