Inferno’s Overwatch and Valorant teams played their first matches in the British Esports Association’s Student Champs last week, with the Rocket League squad starting their championship campaign a week later following technical difficulties.

CRC’s very first match saw the Overwatch team grab a 3-0 victory in a best-of-five contest against the St Vincent Sharks, from Gosport. Despite being a new team, the win was anchored by strong communication between its six members – squad captain Rhianna ‘Giranna’ Marsh, Peter ‘Vyko’ Collins, Euan ‘MisterSalty’ Marsh, Lukas ‘Lukaseiro’ Cegla, Ben ‘Stealth6450’ Sudin-Shaw and Jamie ‘JamieJ264’ Johnson.

The Valorant squad were unable to match their teammates’ success in their first game, running into a well-drilled and experienced unit from Coleg Sir Gar in Swansea who taught them valuable lessons in communication and teamwork.

Week two of the championships saw the Overwatch team playing Belfast Met College in a closely fought battle, that saw the team take a 3-0 win after a tense third match. Meanwhile, the Rocket League squad played their opening game of the season against Newcastle College. In a best-of-five match, the team, comprised of Josh “JR” Raja (captain), Bailey “MRK” Porter and Alfie “Addz” Addison, ended the game 3-0, with consecutive match wins of 7-2, 12-0, 7-2. The next Valorant match will take place on October 20th.
