Apprentice Dan is promoted to key role

An apprenticeship proved a great career move for teenager Dan Coleman, who has been promoted to a key job at a Cambridge company.

Dan, 19, who successfully completed an IT apprenticeship with Cambridge Regional College, has become a permanent member of staff at Arcus Global where he helps keep the IT systems running smoothly as a Customer Sales Representative.

He learned about apprenticeships while at school and liked what he heard, looking for an IT apprenticeship because of his interest in computers.

Dan studied at CRC on the 18-month apprenticeship straight from school, combining his on-the-job learning at Arcus along with technical training at college.

Dan said he enjoyed his apprenticeship, and liked being in a more adult environment, preferring work to school. “I learned far more at work than I did at college. I’ve jumped ahead of my friends who stayed on at school and I get paid,” he said.’

Cambridge Regional College is one of the country’s leading apprenticeship providers, with more than 3,500 apprentices currently in training. To find out how to become an apprentice or how to employ one, see https://www.camre.ac.uk/apprenticeships/
