About the Course

Interested in a career in counselling? Want to complete a short course first? This qualification is an introduction to counselling, you will look at counselling theories, key elements of the main theoretical approaches and begin to develop self-understanding and reflect on your own values and beliefs.

This is a knowledge based introductory qualification. Successfully completing this qualification will help enable you to progress onto the CPCAB Level 2 counselling course, taught face to face at Huntingdon Campus.

About the Course

Unit 1: Using counselling skills

In this unit, you will learn to identify core counselling skills alongside understanding how these are practised in a counselling relationship. You will gain an understanding of how to establish an effective working relationship and will consider the boundaries which need to be respected in this sensitive role.

Unit 2: Introduction to counselling skills theories

This unit will introduce you to the key elements of the main theoretical approaches in counselling, psychodynamics, person-centred therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. There are key practical differences between these theories and you will hone your skills in understanding the significant importance of counselling theory.
Unit 3: Diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills

This unit covers the concepts of diversity and ethics. You will gain an understanding of anti-discriminatory practice, discover the key aspects of an ethical framework, and discover ways to address diversity in counselling skills practice.

Unit 4: Counselling skills and personal development

This unit encourages you to develop self-understanding, identifying your own values and beliefs and the ability to reflect on your personal qualities and skills.

Progression

This qualification is an introductory course, successfully completing this qualification will help enable you to progress onto the CPCAB Level 2 counselling course, taught face to face at Huntingdon Campus.

If you want to become a counsellor, the Level 2 CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Skills forms the foundation of professional counselling practice as well as providing the essential listening and communications skills used by helping professionals.

It is the first compulsory qualification on our progression route to becoming a counsellor.

Completing L2 and L3  counselling qualifications at CRC could assist you in gaining the following employment opportunities and potential salaries:

Counsellor – up to £26,000

Human Resource Assistant – up to £25,000

Entry Requirements

Students need to be working at Level 1 English and should have the ambition to progress into further study, or work.

Assessment

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability whilst studying with CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs. You will be assigned a tutor who will make contact with you prior to you course starting and you will have access to MS Teams to communicate with your tutor and support network. Course work is submitted via our online system and your tutor will mark and return you work to you with feedback
