EFL students will take classes alongside ESOL students, meaning you will benefit from mixed classes with students from various countries but with a shared goal to improve your English.
These classes develop independent learning skills, analytical and critical thinking, academic communication, confidence in using English in your field and strategies for entry to Higher Education or employment.
This course is for you if you are an international student that doesn't currently live and study in the UK. If you are a UK resident then you should look at the ESOL course.
In addition to the content specific to every level, the course also includes:
• dictionary and study skills so that you can continue to learn after you have finished your course
• pronunciation skills (reading and understanding sounds so you can pronounce known words and new words correctly)
• British culture and way of life
• exam skills
• work-related topics (for example, understanding job adverts, where to look for work, volunteering) and skills (cv writing, presentation skills, interpersonal skills)
• oral presentation skills
International students have a choice of internationally recognised General and Academic English examinations: the most popular with our students are IELTS and the Cambridge Suite of Examinations.

Learners who wish to improve their level of English.
You will take a placement test prior to arrival which covers grammar, writing, listening and speaking. The result of the test will determine the level at which you start, but the level at which you finish will depend on how long you are staying and how hard you study.
You can apply online. Prospective candidates will be assessed initially through their application form and then with an interview face-to-face or via Skype. The purpose of this interview is both for tutors to assess your suitability for the course and also to give you the opportunity to find out more about the commitment you are taking on.
