Cambridge Regional College - Centre of Vocational Excellence

Motor Vehicle

Our superbly-equipped £3 million motor vehicle workshop is a great place to learn motor vehicle engineering, with more than 50 cars available to work on, specialist diagnostic units and purpose-built workshops. Tutors are all experienced in the industry, and you’ll be taught on the latest equipment in a real-work setting – giving you the employability skills employers want.

The college runs its own commercial garage, so you will be able to work on customers’ vehicles, under the guidance of lecturers, and learn real hands-on, customer-focused skills. We have excellent relationships with local employers and work closely with them on apprenticeships and work experience. It’s a great start to your career!

Past students have chosen to continue their studies in automotive technology and automotive engineering at universities including Birmingham City, Manchester Met and the University of Hertfordshire. Students have also progressed on to apprenticeships with leading car manufacturer SEAT and the East of England Ambulance Service.

In addition to your main qualification, you will gain other skills within the college’s ‘Passport to Success’. Wider employability skills, English, Maths & IT, personal learning skills and social and community skills are highly valued by employers and will make you a more rounded, employable professional.

“I love working around cars, getting to know everything about them and setting myself up for a career. The facilities here are brilliant. I’ve been racing since 2012 and this year I set a new lap record at Snetterton. It’s a big part of my life and I’d like to work as a mechanic in racing”

Michael Higgs - Level 2 Motor Vehicle

“The course has been really good – I enjoy the workshop practice the most. I’d like to go on to an Apprenticeship at a garage or learn more about electrical work on the full-time Level 3 course.”
