Do you want to return to education and study a Level 2 course that will also enable you to gain relevant English and Maths qualifications? The aims of the course are to help you develop broad study skills that will support your progression onto an Access to Higher Education courses, other Level 3 qualifications or other qualifications necessary to gain employment.
The units are a mixture of academic content and key skills and include units in the following areas:
• Science Research Project incorporating the development of word processing skills
• Introduction to Politics
• Valuing Equality and Diversity
• Introduction to Sociology
• Personal Career Planning
• Study Management
• Delivering a presentation
You will have the opportunity to improve your English and Maths by studying appropriate level qualifications throughout the year. These might include Level 2 functional skills qualifications then, once passed, you can progress onto GCSEs in English and Maths. These qualifications are integrated into the timetable and will be offered to those who are ready to take the examinations.
Following this qualification you have the opportunity to progress on to other part-time or full-time programmes at Cambridge Regional College. It is an ideal progression route onto Access to Higher Education diplomas, for example, which would then allow you to progress to university. You may however decide to look at other level 3 courses or seek employment.
You should have Level 1 or equivalent in Maths and English and be working towards Level 2.
You will also be expected to attend a taster day on Monday 29th June 2020, when you can find out more about the course and take any English and Maths assessments.
The course will be assessed by continual assessment and involve practical write ups, project reports and essays and you will be marked against set criteria. GCSEs will be assessed by formal examinations.
