This one year programme is designed to extend the skills, knowledge and understanding that underpin the study of sport. Students will develop a sound understanding of the principles in their field and will learn to apply these principles more widely. It is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning and who want to pursue or advance their career in sport. The skills offered on this course can provide graduates with the opportunity to work in many different areas of the sport sector including Community Sport & Physical Activity, Leisure Management, PE Teaching and Sports Therapy. The course is a seven unit BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma, which includes:

• Entrepreneurism in Sport
• Sport, Health and Society
• Performance Analysis
• Advanced Coaching
• Teaching Practice
• Event Management

This course requires an up-to-date DBS check to be in place, which can only be applied for through the college. Fees for the DBS check are set by the government and are payable to the college.
For Home and EU students, a loan from the Student Loans Company is available to support learners with fees if applied for. These fees cover the overall costs of the course, including sports kits, guest speakers and day trips.
You will be expected to take part in practical sport and coaching activities regularly throughout the course. You will be expected to gain coaching and sports development experience through the coaching and organisation of some of the sports teams within the College. In addition to this, work experience placements will be offered with local employers, giving you valuable access to experienced practitioners of sports coaching and sports development as well as an opportunity to develop your own skills and knowledge.
During your time on the course you will have the chance to attend extra residential activities. These may include:
• Football (male and female)
• Racket sports
• Ski/snowboarding
• Basketball
• Netball
• Volunteering Abroad (Morocco/Thailand)
There is an extra cost for these activities.
You will also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications that have been tailor made to support your studies and progression. These include the PTLLS (Preparation in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) course and the Level 3 Sports Massage Diploma
This is classed as a full-time course – on successful completion of this course, you will gain a BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma. Home & EU students are eligible to apply for a full-time loan from Student Finance England
This programme is a full Level 5 qualification which can lead to enhanced employment opportunities in teaching, coaching and the fitness industry or entry to Higher Education through a top-up degree.
A successful completion of the BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Sport or an equivalent Level 4 qualification. You will have an active and keen interest in sport and will have experience of being involved in sports coaching and/or development within your own club. With this experience, you will be anticipating a career in sports coaching or development. The offer on the course is subject to the successful attendance of a Welcome Event and Induction Day, and completion of a pre-course assignment
Each project, activity or assignment that you complete will be assessed. These assessments indicate your level of performance and contribute to your final grade. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Assessment will be through practical and theoretical assignments.
