The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) was established in 1980 and is sponsored by the four main accounting bodies. It seeks to meet the educational and training needs of a wide range of trainees including those employed in accounting in a variety of organisations and those aspiring to change their occupation. When you have achieved your AAT Level 3 you can progress to the AAT Level 4 programme. The qualification can lead to study for other professional bodies like the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and The Association of Chartered Certified Accounts.

 

About the Course

This course is on Monday from 10am till 4pm.

It seeks to meet the educational and training needs of a wide range of trainees including those employed in accounting in a variety of organisations and those aspiring to change their occupation. This course is designed for employees who have a strong level of numeracy and literacy skills.



This course is divided into 6 units:



- Advanced Bookkeeping (examined)

- Final Accounts Preparation (examined)

- Management Accounting (examined)

- Indirect Tax (examined)

- Professional Ethics for Accountants (not separately assessed)

- Spreadsheets for Accounting (not separately assessed)

- One final synoptic assessment at the end of the course



All students will be required to become student members and register with the AAT as such.

All students will be given a reading list and book guide to purchase the course text books as these are not included in the course fees.



Learners work towards achieving an Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at Level 3 and will gain knowledge and skills in the following topics:



- Business Awareness

- IT Systems and Processes

- Ethical Standards

- Financial Accounting and Reporting

- Management Accounting

- Analysis

- Communication

- Produce quality and accurate information

- Use systems & processes

- Problem solving



Registration and Exam Fees: Registration to become a member of the AAT is mandatory for all students and costs £150 per year. The membership fee can be paid by the employer or the learner but must be done directly to the AAT. The renewal fee is £101.

Progression

As well as ensuring full competency as an Assistant Accountant, this standard provides the foundation for progression into a number of career paths in the Accounting sector including Audit Trainee, Corporate Recovery Analyst, Credit Controller or Tax Accountant. The programme opens up career opportunities for employment in the management aspect of Accountancy.  There may be the possibility of Management Apprenticeships, Short course in Management and Professional qualifications.

Entry Requirements

Candidates for the Level 3 AAT course should have completed the Level 2 Accounting course. If you do not already have a Level 2 Accounting qualification but think that a Level 3 is the right level course, then you can either take an AAT Skills Scan test (please search through your preferred search engine) or we will assess your application on receipt and can advise.

We currently offer pre-apprenticeship courses for applicants, in Maths and English, to support learners wishing improve their grades to meet the entry criteria. Learners should have secured employment.

All applicants will be interviewed- this includes maths and English skills scan and a formal interview

Assessment

All assessments will be set by the AAT and will be delivered using computer-based technologies.

You may be eligible to study this Level 3 qualification for free as part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee. You would be eligible if:




  • This is your first level 3 qualification (a level 3 qualification is equivalent to either an advanced technical certificate, diploma or 2 full A-Levels.)

  • You are aged 24 or older.



If you are 19-23 years old and this would be your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification you will be eligible to study for free (fully funded) through the adult education budget as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. You can find out more about this by clicking here
