You will have the opportunity to improve your English and Maths by studying appropriate level qualifications throughout the year. These might include Level 2 functional skills qualifications which, once passed, will allow you to progress onto GCSEs in English and Maths.
Following this qualification you may have the opportunity to progress onto other part-time or full-time programmes at Cambridge Regional College, depending on your Maths and English level. It is an ideal progression route onto Access to Higher Education diplomas, for example in Business, which would then allow you to access Higher Education. Alternatively, you may consider other level 3 courses or seek employment.
You should be aged 16 or over and have evidence of secondary qualifications. You should have a Level 1 or equivalent in Maths and English and be working towards level 2.
In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
The course will be assessed by continual assessment and involve practical write ups, project reports and essays and you will be marked against set criteria. Functional Skills or GCSEs will be assessed by formal examinations.
