The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Media Make-up provides you with specialist practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or progression within the make-up industry.

 

About the Course

This Level 2 Technical Qualification in Hair and Make-up Artistry aims to develop learners knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan for and provide make-up applications, hair preparation services, fashion and editorial make-up and face and body painting. Learners will develop their abilities to ensure continuity services are adhered to for make-up application and hair services, whilst developing abilities to produce a total look for competition work.
This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the make-up industry. You will study the following mandatory content:

• Health and Safety
• Make up applications
• Hair preparation services
• Principles of working in the make-up industry
• Dress and finish hair
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Face and Body Art
• Total looks
• Fashion and Editorial Make up

Progression

This practical based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the make-up industry or further specialist study. Following successful completion of this qualification you will demonstrate to an employer that you have the skills and knowledge of health & safety, customer service and also have the necessary technical skills to be employed as a make-up artist. This qualification could lead to a job as a make-up artist working in one of the following establishments: • Photographic studios • Department stores • Make-up stores • Salon You could also work as a freelance make-up artist.

Entry Requirements

Entry onto this programme will require 3 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or above including English and Maths. An art related subject is also desirable however, if you do not have an art related subject, a portfolio of your artistic talent may be requested at interview. Your acceptance on the course will be based on a successful interview and assessment of your commitment and ability to meet the demands of the course and the expectations of employers in the industry. Individuals will be considered on their suitability and references showing good attendance and behaviour and a genuine interest in the industry. This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don't need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification. However, in order to achieve your full potential, we believe that you will need certain qualities including motivation, dedication and passion to succeed. Entry is conditional to college requirements – These will be discussed at your welcome event. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Once we have received your application, you will be invited to attend a Welcome Event. At the Welcome Event you will meet the tutors and get the chance to learn more about college and your course. You will also have a discussion with one of our tutors who will look to make you a formal offer for September.
