About the Course

This programme has been designed to give you the essential skills and knowledge you need to successfully start your career within the Brickwork industry. With teaching and instruction from specialist staff you will gain knowledge and learn a wide variety of practical skills in the area of:

• Forming masonry structures.
• Constructing solid walling incorporating isolated and attached piers.
• Preparing components and erecting cavity walling.
• Setting out for masonry structures.
• Constructing masonry cladding.
• Interpreting construction drawings and information to produce masonry structures.

Health and safety is of paramount importance in all areas of the construction industry, and this will be reinforced throughout the course.  Vocational core skills of English and Maths will be embedding in the programme along with specialist delivery to enable learners to reach GCSE grade 4 or equivalent standards to meet industry requirements.

In addition to the specialist skills described above, we will help you to develop a range of wider skills that will make you into a well-rounded professional who will be highly valued by employers and universities.  During tutorials we will develop your Employability skills, Personal Learning, Social and Community skills, together with your Specialist skills and qualification will give you a distinct advantage when it is time for you to progress to employment or further and higher education.

• Maths and English skills needed in day to day life

• Team working to complete projects

You can also develop your entrepreneurial skills through charitable and community projects which run throughout the year and are led by students.

Progression

Successful completion of all elements of this study programme will allow you to progress in several different ways, including: • Gaining employment within the Brickwork sector and undertaking an apprenticeship scheme to gain further qualifications and experience.

Entry Requirements

To access this course you will need to have completed the Level 1 Bricklaying and attend an interview with the Level 2 course tutor with information regarding the course.

Assessment

Learning takes place through a variety of theory and practical lessons. Students will also need to carry out personal research to enable them to successfully complete the course and guidance on this will be given by the course tutors. Your skills and knowledge will be continuously assessed throughout the course; additionally each unit will be assessed by end multiple choice examinations and practical tests. Support will be provided through regular meetings with your course tutor.
