This qualification covers the required skills and knowledge for preparing to work in the Hospitality & Catering Industry. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who work or want to work as a chef and have the flexibility to undertake additional learning in food service.
The following areas that can be covered within this qualification:
• Introduction to employability in the catering and hospitality industry
• Health and Safety Awareness for catering and hospitality
• Introduction to healthier foods and special diets
• Introduction to kitchen equipment
• Customer service in the hospitality industry
• Food preparation and cooking
• Food service
• Assisting at a hospitality event
Starting out in hospitality and catering and want a basic understanding of the industry? This qualification is designed for learners who want to prepare for further learning or training in the hospitality and catering sector or to progress onto an apprenticeship or into employment.
This course is suitable for anyone 16 years old or over.
Progression
This qualification could lead to jobs such as:
• Kitchen assistant
• Level 1 City and Guilds Diploma in Professional Cookery
Entry Requirements
No formal entry requirements but desire to learn. Keen interest in your chosen subject area.
In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
