About the Course

This course is a level 1 programme designed for those who are looking to develop the skills needed to work in schools as teaching assistant. Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of the educational industry as a business.  The qualification is aimed at a range of learners, who are thinking of working in a school setting.  
This qualification covers:

• NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools
• NOCN Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding and Prevent

The units they will cover are:
(NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools)
Unit PWS1 – Understand schools as organisations
Unit PWS2 – Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well
Unit PWS3 – Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults

NOCN Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding and Prevent – I unit to complete this covers:
Learning outcome 1- Understand basic safeguarding context and principles
Learning outcome 2 – Understand signs, indicators and methods of abuse and neglect
Learning outcome 3 – Understand safeguarding in context of own organisations
Learning outcome 4 – Understand the basic principles of the Prevent duty

Progression

Learners can progress onto Level 2 Teaching assistant which is a 2-week full day programme. Learners can also explore our other employability 1-week courses across E3, L1 and L2 programmes in a number of different subject areas. For those that wish to study further, learners can also progress onto online, full time and part time courses within the wider college.

Entry Requirements

Learners must have a good level of spoken and written English and maths. You need to be aged 19+. This course has no cost to those in receipt of unemployment benefits or on a low wage income.

Assessment

Full guidance and support is available throughout the 5-day programme from both your trainer & the CRC Hub, available both on campus and online.
