11.9 million people (22%) do not have the essential digital skills needed for day-to-day life in the UK. The Department for Education's basic digital skills reform aims to support adults at risk of being left behind in the increasingly digital world. Our new Essential Digital Skills courses will provide learners of all ages with the digital skills to thrive in the information age.
Explore Essential IT skills can either follow on from Discover essential Digital Skills, or be studied as a stand alone qualification.
The course will cover 5 units including:
1. Using devices and handling information
2. Creating and editing
5. Being safe and responsible online.
This course will concentrate on refining IT skills for employment, with emphasis placed on creating content using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software; professional digital communication, and using social media for networking and employability. Level 1 Learners develop their use of workplace tools to collaborate and communicate more efficiently, create documents and presentations, and use basic spreadsheet functionality – transferable skills that enable them to progress to level 2 training and beyond.
The qualifications are intended to develop essential digital skills to enable learners to have access to and actively engage in the digital world. Following successful achievement, learners may progress to the online L2 certificate in IT user skills
No entry requirements, students should have a basic level of English and the ambition to progress into further work or study.
