Course Overview

This exciting new Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Beauty & Spa Therapy offers you a nationally recognised qualification at level 3 and aims to provide you with a range of specialist practical skills and technical knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment as a fully qualified therapist or for further training within the Beauty & Spa Therapy Industry. A well-groomed and professional appearance is essential as you will be working with the public and need to present a professional image. Great importance is also placed on reliability requiring regular attendance and punctuality. You will be advised of any materials you will need to purchase for your course, such as a beauty kit, text book and salon uniform, when you attend the Welcome Event/Progression interview.

This qualification covers a very wide range of practical skills and knowledge required for working in the beauty and spa therapy industry.

Compulsory units:
• Promote and sell products and services to clients
• Provide body massage
• Provide facial electrotherapy treatments
• Provide body electrotherapy treatments
• Anatomy & Physiology
• Provide dry spa treatments

Optional units:
• Provide electrical epilation
• Provide Indian head massage
• Tanning treatments
• Apply individual semi-permanent lash treatments
• Dermatology
• Research advancements within the beauty industry
• Monitor and maintain the clients' spa journey
• Provide body stone therapy treatments

You will spend an evening each week in our salons, to build up your commercial experience.

We work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers. This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the beauty or spa therapy industry or specialist further study. Professional product training is provided in Dermalogica products to enable you to experience retailing and customer care first hand. You will also have the opportunity to study and achieve further qualifications in Functional Skills in English or Maths to assist in your personal development.  As with all our programmes, this programme includes a tutorial session, giving you individual contact with your tutor. There will be optional extra-curricular activities at an additional cost. These may include visits to course appropriate venues, professional workshops and residential visits.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Tattoos can increase the risk of an allergic reaction to the chemicals contained in the products used in Hair, Beauty & Media Make-up.  For safety reasons there must be a 3 month rest period after a tattoo or microblading procedure has been carried out.  Therefore, having a tattoo or microblading procedure done within 3 months prior to starting, or at any time during, your course could result in non-achievement or withdrawal from your course.

Progression & Career Opportunities

On successful completion of Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy there are career opportunities to work in salons, health hydro/farms, department stores, and cruise liners. There is also the opportunity to progress onto higher education and also work on a self-employed basis. If you decide to continue your studies you could take additional qualifications in media make up, hairdressing, holistic therapy, fitness or a HNC/HND to widen your employment prospects.

Entry Requirements

This Course is suitable for anybody over the age of 16.

You will need a full Level 2 qualification, a college reference and a successful interview.  Each candidate will be considered on their experience, suitability and previous course references showing good attendance and behaviour and a genuine interest in the beauty therapy industry. You will be interviewed as part of the College Welcome Event.  You will be required to complete a trade test.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

Learning Assessment & Support

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.

The skills you are learning should be practised outside college in order to develop and progress, and your practical skills will be supplemented with theoretical study necessary to successfully complete the assessments.  You will also need to complete some form of work experience. You will need to set time aside at home to work on your portfolio.

The programme is assessed throughout the year in a number of ways:
• By demonstrating your practical competence on your peers in the college salon and in case studies to a level required in employment. You may also be encouraged to work on family, friends and fee paying clients in the college salon.
• Answering oral questions as part of the practical assessment to demonstrate your treatment knowledge and understanding
• Compiling a portfolio of work undertaken during the year
• Answering written questions and assignments set by your tutor
• Taking part in an externally moderated practical assignment – This may take place outside of your regular college hours.
• On-line testing

You may be required to provide clients for assessment as the college cannot guarantee client availability.
