Bricklaying Basics - DIY
Science Park Campus, Kings Hedges Road
The course will cover the history of brickwork, mortar and safe tool use and types of construction. It also covers Health and Safety, mortar mixes including additives, types of bricks and bonds, using a trowel and making a roll, building a deadman, improving trowel skills, buttering ends and vertical joints, using string-line and level, building a pyramid wall, cutting bricks, building walls with stop end and walls with corners and larger wall areas.
Students must wear steel toe capped footwear (this is essential to participate in the course), old clothes or overalls, and plaster gloves if required to protect hands.
Progression & Career Opportunities
Use this course to gain an insight into the Construction Leisure courses and to progress onto another course such as Change it Yourself, Plumbing or Woodcrafts.
There are no formal entry requirements.
