Apprentices and Employers recognised in the annual Cambridge Regional College Apprenticeship Awards 2022

Apprentices and employers from across the region have been recognised in the Cambridge Regional College Apprenticeship Awards 2022.

Joseph Smith of Cottenham, Cambridge has been awarded the Overall Apprentice of the Year, while TaxAssist, Letchworth and Hitchin were awarded the Overall Apprentice Employer of the Year in the Cambridge Regional College Apprenticeship Awards. The awards celebrate outstanding apprentice achievement, and the exceptional commitment shown by the employers that support them.

Joe, who also won the award for Construction & Trades Apprentice of the Year, said, “I have always wanted to work in the Construction trade, and knowing Munro as an employer, living nearby, and knowing that Cambridge Regional College offered the apprenticeship, I felt like everything was falling in to place.”

TaxAssist, covering the Letchworth and Hitchin area, were winners of the Accounting Apprentice Employer of the Year in addition to the overall Apprentice Employer.

TaxAssist Managing Partner, Bukky Shonola said, “Our apprentices dream of becoming qualified Accountants and our goal is to help them achieve that. The AAT apprenticeship programme gives them the strong foundation they need to be able to do this.

Apprentices are valuable members of the team. Training is provided to develop individual skills such as communication, organisation, and teamwork, and our apprentices do very well at work and in college.”

The 2022 Cambridge Regional College Apprenticeship Awards saw nine employer winners and ten apprentice winners from across the eastern region receive an award for outstanding achievement in their sector.

The winners were announced in a specially prepared celebratory video presented by Cambridge Regional College Principal, Mark Robertson, and Deputy Principal, Michelle Dowse. You can watch here:

Michelle Dowse said, “The achievements of both apprentices and employers have been magnificent. Many of the apprentices started their studies in the pandemic and have since demonstrated their resilience and ability to manage to change as the world returned to business as usual. I am proud to offer my heartfelt congratulations to all winners.”
