Aged 19+ Looking for a way into Construction?

This engaging course has been designed to give individuals an insight into the construction world. The course will cover topics that will give them confidence to demonstrate some key skills needed to gain their CSCS card and be site ready on completion.

[Please note: this course is usually a 5-day course where students can sit their CSCS test on the last day at a test centre. However, due to the current Coronavirus lockdown the CSCS test will be postponed until a later date.]

This qualification will:

Focus on the study of the basic principles of health and safety, including hazards and risks within the workplace.

Qualification objectives

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:

  • understand the importance of health and safety procedures
  • raise awareness of the potential hazards and risks in the workplace
  • understand implications of poor health and safety
  • know key rights and responsibilities relating to health and safety.

Essential skills

While completing this qualification, learners may develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in employees. These range from familiar ‘key skills’ such as team working, independent learning and problem-solving, to more tricky-to-measure skills such as:

  • an appreciation for appropriate behaviour and Personal Protective Equipment
  • communicating with professional colleagues/peers

Qualifications gained

Students will gain their Green CSCS card on completion if successful in passing:

  • NOCN Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment
  • NCFE Level 1 Award in Health & Safety Awareness
  • CSCS Test (to be taken at CRC Huntingdon Campus CSCS Test Centre)

Hospitality Works

Try your hand in the hospitality sector, immerse yourself in our state-of-the-art kitchens and learn new skills.

You will learn:

  • front of house duties
  • restaurant services
  • kitchen duties

You will gain:

  • real experience serving customers
  • a recognised qualification at Level 1
  • a food hygiene certificate
  • the chance to show off your skills to employers with live vacancies

Discover your Confidence

This fun and engaging course has been designed to support individuals by giving them the confidence they need to take control, feel positive and understand how mindset has a huge impact on their success.   We will support learners in taking ownership of their future and fully prepare them for their next steps towards employment.  The course will cover topics that will give them the confidence to demonstrate some key skills needed for the workplace in a supportive and interactive environment.  The course also allows for one to one sessions within the course to help with personal development.

Some of the topics covered will include:

  • Understanding mindset 
  • deciding on the right job for you 
  • goal and target setting 
  • job and training search skills 
  • problem solving skills for work
  • working in a team and how to keep improving

This is an entry level course and learners will gain a NCFE Entry Level qualification in Employability Skills on completion.  Plus lots of confidence! 
From a learning perspective they can progress onto our Explore course if suitable.

Warehousing Works (Forklift)

A two week Level 1 Warehousing course which includes both Counterbalance and Reach Truck RTITB certificates. Forklift courses are also available to the public for those who do not qualify for funding for both trucks for Novices, Experienced and Refreshers. Prices for these are on the college website. This course runs for 2 weeks, Monday to Friday 09:30am to 16:30pm each day. RTITB certificates are not guaranteed and require the individual to pass both theory and practical tests to obtain them.


These widely recognised ICT qualifications cover MS Word Processing, MS PowerPoint (presentations), MS Excel (spreadsheets) and Improving Productivity (how you combine the applications to become more productive at work). Our ICT qualifications can be taken at both Level 1 and 2. They can also be taken as individual units if required (other unit options are also available). Take up the opportunity to improve your ICT skills if you are looking at an office based job role. This course runs on a flexible 1 day a week basis, 09:30am to 16:30pm. As a flexible programme you can choose to do hours that fit into a school day. For example, you can attend college from 10:00am to 14:00pm to allow for a school pick up. Evening course now running, weekly starts available (Tuesdays 5:30pm to 8:30pm).
