Parents of sons and daughters interested in starting an apprenticeship invited to special information evening at Cambridge Regional College
Cambridge Regional College hosted an information evening for parents on Monday 5 March kicking off National Apprenticeship Week 2018.
The event took place at The Park Restaurant and was attended by over 120 visitors interested in a wide range of apprenticeships from business administration and marketing to catering and engineering. On arrival, attendees were welcomed with hospitality arranged by the college catering and hospitality students including delicious Victoria sponges.
The evening consisted of an informative presentation by CRC Head of Employment Services, Maureen Horan, an inspirational talk by current CRC apprentice, Joshua Morrow and Group Learning and Development Manager for Domino Printing Sciences, Paul Hockey.
CRC’s apprenticeship advisors were also on hand to answer questions and provide tailored advice.
Maureen Horan, head of employment services at the college, said the evening gave parents an overview of apprenticeships and the value they bring to young people and employers alike.
“Apprenticeships are great for young people, but also people of any age looking to train and gain vocationally-relevant qualifications whilst earning. Apprenticeships also benefit Employers by helping them build a highly-skilled, committed and competent workforce”.
Joshua Morrow, a Level 3 Business Administration apprentice with Domino Printing Sciences, gave an insightful account of life as an apprentice, shared advice to those looking to follow a similar career path and explained how apprenticeships lead to qualifications while earning money.
Paul Hockey, Group Learning and Development of Domino Printing Sciences gave an inspiring talk from the employer perspective, highlighting how apprenticeships have been integral to the success and growth of his organisation. Domino has a long-standing history of apprenticeship recruitment and target themselves with offering post-apprenticeship, full-time contracts whenever possible.
Cambridge Regional College traditionally hosts apprenticeship information evenings once or twice per year. Follow the college Facebook or Twitter to keep up to date with future apprenticeship events.
