Shadow Scholar trials for top young footballers
Talented young footballers are being invited to try out for Cambridge United’s successful Shadow Scholars Academy, run in partnership with Cambridge Regional College.
The innovative programme offers outstanding footballers the chance to receive regular professional coaching from UEFA level coaches, and study for a BTEC in Sport at CRC – opening the door to a wide range of opportunities, including university.
The scheme has been up and running for four years and has already proved successful, with a record number of students going onto university and higher education as a result of the course last year.
As well as playing, football, students have the opportunity to coach the game within the Cambridge United youth development system at soccer centres, soccer schools, regional development centres and even at Shadow Academy level.
Outstanding past students have represented the U’s in the Youth Team – Harry Darling and Thomas Knowles recently signed a full time academy scholarship with the club after excelling on the shadow scholarship – while others have won football scholarships to US universities and coaching jobs.
Trials are open to boys aged 16-18 and take place at Abbey Pools Leisure Centre on Wednesday, 31 August at 5:30pm. To register, visit www.cuyd.co.uk or for more information email Jake.Hammond@cambridge-United.co.uk.
