Cambridge Regional College runs Shadow Football Scholarship Schemes at each campus for learners aged 16-19. At our Cambridge Campus, students can enrol with Cambridge United FC Scholars and, from September 2022, students enrolling at our Huntingdon Campus will join St Neots Town FC Scholars.
The Scheme is a two year National Diploma combined with a Football Development Scheme that sees players train 2-3 times a week and compete in National Youth Football Leagues and cup competitions.
Scholarship students have access to fantastic facilities for both training and home fixtures and they will receive coaching by fully qualified coaches associated with their football club.
A number of scouts come to watch our players to see if they have the necessary attributes for a University Scholarship in America. Our unique partnership also allows the students to gain coaching experience within the Youth & Community Trust, as well as work experience with our Sports Science department. Our players are given the opportunity to gain qualifications for degree courses to enable them to pursue employment in PE Teaching, Physio, Sports Science, Coaching and Fitness Instructing.
A two-year programme which is designed to prepare you for a career in the sports industry. The breadth of content in this qualification allows learners to widen their opportunities to progress to a number of different higher education courses or scholarships in the US. The course is equivalent in size to three A levels and includes 12 different units, seven of which are mandatory.
Players are selected upon a trial basis. Training is 3 times per week and teams play in a competitive league. All training and games are structured around the student’s education timetable.
