Personal Support Team

Our team of support staff explain why they enjoy working with students so much and tell you a little bit about themselves:

Nathan Jones

Director of SEND Support and Welfare

“I manage the Personal Support Team,  it’s a demanding job, but one which is incredibly rewarding.  We have a team of really dedicated, hard-working staff here; always busy, looking for ways to support learners to achieve the things they want and maintaining a high level of expectation. Year on year, we see students passing their qualifications and moving on to work, university, other courses or apprenticeships and community provision.  We want the best for our learners and we do what we can to enable them to achieve the best”.

Nicole Grant

SEND Support Facilitator

“My student now works from a text book in ITQ on his own, reading the instructions himself and turning the page unaided. He leaves the college each day smiling as my answer to his question – ‘did I do well today?’- is now ‘very good”

Julie Adams

Communication Support Worker

“What I like best about my job is seeing the students I have worked with achieve, and by that I mean socially as well as academically.”

“I have a deaf son and a son with learning difficulties, so I like to think I can offer something from my first-hand experience.”

“I like earning money for my holidays. I like to go cycling in the summer (fair weather only) and am an avid Zumba fan.”

Lucy O’Mahony

Communication Support Worker

“I love to see our students grow in confidence and achieve in their desired subject areas.”

“I enjoy weight training in the gym and finding new extreme exercises.”

Abigail Austin

“I regularly attend a d/Deaf club in Huntingdon and am Chairman of the Cambridge Tinnitus Association.”

Teresa Alderton

“I find it rewarding watching our students growing more independent.

“I love yoga, walking and running, also learning new things.”

Carlos Failde

“I enjoy helping others, working across such varied subjects and getting to know the students.”

“I love to mess around with computers and technology although I believe the best computer games date from the 90’s. I occasionally manage to complete the cryptic crossword in the Cambridge Evening News.”

Gina Holley

“I am very proud to be part of a caring and supportive team who puts the needs of the student first.”

“I never eat chocolate in the presence of other team member Karen Dixon as she will make me share!”

Shammi Lyszkowska

SEND Support Manager, Mainstream

“It is very important to me that I get the very best out of our students so they can realise their potential – a stepping stone to their ultimate goal.”

“I notice and appreciate the significant moments of each day that make life rich and pay attention to the simple pleasures of life.”

Ryan Hart

SEND Support Facilitator

“It’s important that students receive the right level of support for them. I’m passionate about ensuring all students have full access to courses and helping them overcome any challenges that may stand in their way.”

“I’m a real ‘petrolhead’- in my spare time I like messing around with cars and attending track days. I’ve had more cars than hot dinners!”
