Matt Ayres: Traineeship Case Study
Matthew Ayres, 17, was looking to get onto an Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery but wasn’t having any luck securing an Apprenticeship job. That’s why he enrolled onto the Traineeship programme.
Matt’s Traineeship was made up of seven weeks work experience placement at the Prince Albert Pub in Ely. There he learnt how to operate safely in a kitchen, how to make different types of food, knife skills and gain some cooking experience. He says of his experience:
” I loved the work placement. I got on really well with the staff, especially the head chef. I learnt a lot from them.”
During his Traineeship he was also taught skills in the classroom at CRC such as interview skills, telephone techniques, health and safety, and employee rights and responsibilities.
As a result of the work experience and knowledge he received from the Traineeship programme, he received four job offers. He quickly settled on an Apprentice Chef position in The Maids Head (Wicken) and started his new career as a chef.
