More on our language schools

What materials will I use?

We use a course book as the basis for the course as well as additional materials, such as grammar books, newspapers/magazines, online resources and graded readers (simplified books). The additional materials used will depend on the level and the interests of the class.

What does the syllabus cover?

In addition to the content specific to every level, our programme also includes

  • dictionary and study skills so that you can continue to learn after you have finished your class
  • pronunciation skills (reading and understanding sounds so you can pronounce known words and new words correctly)
  • British culture and way of life
  • exam skills (if relevant)
  • oral skills and oral presentation skills

What should I expect from the lessons?

In your lessons you will be asked to be active and participate in a variety of activities (for example, communication activities, pair and group work, self and peer correction/evaluation, oral presentations, discussions). It is important that you ask questions when you do not understand. You will also be able to comment on your classes and tell us if you want additional topics or activities.

Where does the course take place?

These programmes take place at our college campus in Cambridge.

Will I have to attend all lessons?

You have to attend all timetabled lessons. It is important that you check before you start that you can come to all lessons.

You will be asked to complete homework (oral or written) at least 3 times per week.  You will also have to revise and learn your lessons every day.

If you do not attend all your lessons you may be asked to leave as the college expects you to attend all your lessons.

How do I apply for a place on the course?

You can apply online by clicking on the button below. Prospective candidates will be assessed initially through their application form and will also be required to take a placement test, either online or in college. The purpose of this assessment is both for tutors to assess your English level and suitability for the course and also to give you the opportunity to find out more about the commitment you are taking on.
