Apprenticeships – Information for Employers
Apprenticeships are a low-cost, enhanced vocational training option that are tailored to your requirements. You are involved at every step in the planning of the training programme. Training and development can boost your staff morale, increase employee retention rates and improve productivity and efficiency.
At Sawston Nursery we pride ourselves in supporting apprentices working towards a childcare qualification. We work very closely with Cambridge Regional College supporting, mentoring and training apprentices who wish to ‘learn on the job’. Working in partnership is very important to us as it provides us with the opportunity to raise the levels in early years, through selecting young people who wish to have a career with our nursery and training them to a high standard, developing their skills and knowledge in a workplace environment. Invest in the Future with an Apprentice…
You can choose to take on a new apprentice, giving a school leaver a great opportunity. They will be trained in the skills that are relevant to your occupational area, meaning they can soon make a positive impact on your business. Apprentices aged 16-18 years old are fully-funded so you don’t pay any fees for this age group. Apprentices aged 24+ are partially-funded (employer fees apply).
Apprentices require a contract of employment which must identify the skill, trade or occupation for which the apprentice is being trained and confirm the qualifying apprenticeship framework. Apprentices should be paid at least the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices which is currently £3.40 per hour but can be paid more, with holiday entitlement. Apprentices aged 19 and above in the second year of study will be entitled to the age-related rate; for further information visit www.gov.uk. If you are looking to recruit a new apprentice, we can help you with that and can identify potential candidates from an existing pool of full-time students or fully-vetted applicants. Our recruitment services are at no extra cost to you.
You may be eligible for the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers worth £1500-2000 for each new apprentice recruited aged 16-24 years old. Find out more about this grant here.
Upskilling Your Existing Workforce…
There is no age limit for Apprenticeships so your existing staff can benefit from increased skills and gain industry recognised qualifications. You may have staff members who have the experience but not the formal qualifications. Apprenticeships are an ideal option to invest in their development and recognise their skills and knowledge.
