Great Careers in Care

Careers in Care, Health and Early Education are thriving. There is a huge need for trained and experienced staff in the health and social care sector, as well as in nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools.

Job prospects are expanding and the rewards go far beyond the financial ones – caring for and teaching other people is a hugely worthwhile career!

All our programmes incorporate placements in real work settings and you may spend up to two days a week in a nursery, primary school, pharmacy or a hospital ward. The college works closely with employers across the region, who provide vital support for our students. Guest speakers offer introductions to the many career pathways in the sector.

The college has outstanding training facilities at its main site on the Science Park campus and our Health & Care students benefit from direct work experience at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, one of the country’s largest and best known trusts.

Our Level 3 Health Care students can apply for the SHAP Student Healthcare Assistant Programme which enables them to access unique experiences within a variety of clinics, wards and specialised workshops.

Students on our Early Years Education courses undertake vital work experience in nursery settings, pre-schools and primary schools.

Qualifications can lead to a wide variety of careers, including social work, mental health, nursing, early education, residential care with adults or children, youth work and primary teaching.

“The classes here are quite small and the teachers concentrate on the students and teach well. My work placement allows me to see what it’s like in a real work environment and put what I learn into practice”

Natalia Sommer - Level 3 Childcare

“I did my A Levels but wanted a course with more work experience to help me prepare for university. I have a placement at a primary school two days per week and I really enjoy that balance between work and college.”

James Rose - Level 3 Childcare
