As part of your studies at CRC, you will further develop your Key Skills in the following:
- Communication
- Application of Number
- Information and Communication Technology
- Working with Others
- Improving your own Learning and Performance
- Problem Solving
Key Skills are important for everything you do at College, at university, at home and at work. They give you the confidence to:
- Read, write, speak and listen effectively
- Understand and use numbers effectively
- Use ICT on a day to day basis effectively
Key Skills also develop your ability to work as part of a team, organise yourself and problem solve effectively. Your tutors will advise you on exactly what Key Skills you will study. This will depend on your GCSE results, the course you are enrolled on and an Initial Assessment of your skills.
Our aim is to enable you to be able to show you can apply some of the skills you have already learned in GCSE English, Maths and ICT to your other studies and in your work. For example, you may know how to add, subtract, divide and multiply, but could you apply them to a fundraising event, plumbing a house, organising a rock concert, running a business or applying to university? Equally as part of any of the examples you may have to write a letter, talk to customers, present a business plan, research a venue or complete your UCAS application.
If you decide to go to university, you can list Key Skills with your other qualifications, include them in your Personal Statement and, for some courses, gain the following UCAS points for the first three Key Skills:
- Level 2 10 points
- Level 3 20 points
- Level 4 30 points
All Apprentices have to achieve at least Communication and Application of Number at the level appropriate to their training. If you decide to apply for a job, employers are well aware of the benefits of employing staff that have achieved their Key Skills qualifications.
