EFL and ESOL courses



The Cambridge International Centre offers full and part-time courses in EFL for Beginners to Advanced level students. English courses are open all year round and you can join any time. Courses cover reading, writing, speaking and listening. Specialised options focus on speciific areas such as: Academic English, Speaking & Listening, IELTS Exam Preparation, English for Science, Technology, Business and IT Skills. These classes develop independent learning skills, analytical and critical thinking, academic communication, confidence in using English and strategies for entry to Higher Education or employment.

    English as a Second/Other Language (ESOL)

    This course aimes at developing beginners' skills to enable them to communicate at a basic level in day-to-day situations. This course is aimed at learners with little or no knowledge of English.

    Entry Level


    ESOL Entry 1

    This course is designed to give a good basis in the English Language. Developing your linguistic skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to a general standard of competence. You will extend your vocabulary and increase your ability to communicate reasonably well in English in a variety of basic, everyday social and work-based situations.

    ESOL Entry 2

    This course builds on knowledge of basic English structure and is designed to give a good basis in language. It is for Pre-Intermediate students who are preparing for the ESOL Entry 2 (equivalent to University of Cambridge Key English Test (KET) Certificate). You will develop all four skills. The course will help you to understand the main points of simple texts, to communicate in the most familiar situations, and to understand short, standard notices and simple spoken directions.

    ESOL Entry 3

    This course for Intermediate students leads to the ESOL Skills for Life Entry 3 exam (equivalent to the University of Cambridge Preliminary English Test (PET) Certificate or the IELTS). The course will develop all your skills in English and enable you to use appropriate communication styles for a variety of situations, detect opinions, attitudes and moods in spoken and written English. You will also increase your range of vocabulary.

    Level 1

    ESOL

    This is a class for Upper Intermediate students who are preparing for the ESOL Skills for Life Level 1 (equivalent to the University of Cambridge First Certificate of English (FCE) or IELTS). You will develop all your skills in English to reach a fairly high degree of competence, and use English for many practical purposes, including business and study. You will have a wide grasp of vocabulary, be able to construct an argument and use appropriate communication styles.

    Level 2

    ESOL

    This is a class for Advanced students who are preparing for the ESOL Skills for Life Level 2 (equivalent to the University of Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or IELTS). You will develop all your skills in English to reach a high degree of competence, using English effectively in social and professional situations and in higher education. You will be able to deal with complex forms of language and communicate in various situations requiring sophisticated language.

    Level 3

    Foundation Programmes for International students

    This course prepares you for entry to British universities. You must be aged 17+, possess a Secondary School Certificate and IELTS 4.5 (if you have not done an IELTS test in your country, you can join an English course at CRC before you start your Foundation Programme). Courses run from September to June or January to August. You can choose to take Science or Business Studies courses. On successful completion you will gain a Cambridge Regional College International Foundation Certificate.
