Employers
Apprenticeships aren't just for young people – they're now available for the 25+ age group, so all areas of your workforce can benefit. As an employer, an Apprenticeship programme for your staff can help you gain from low cost, value-added training tailored to your requirements.
Apprentices receive relevant industry training that can have an immediate impact on your business, and you are involved at every step in the planning of their training programme to make sure it suits your needs.
More than 80 per cent of organisations who employ Apprentices say they have a more satisfied and motivated workforce. The benefits to business include enhanced business performance through greater productivity, improved customer service, competitive advantage or staff retention.
A well-trained, motivated workforce with a nationally-recognised qualification, in-college training from highly qualified teaching staff and a specialist advisor to assess and review progress add to the benefits. Financial assistance to help meet the cost of training is also available.

Apprenticeships are your chance to earn while you learn, and gain the essential qualifications and work experience which employers value so highly. Apprenticeships are designed to give you a great start to your career – you'll learn new skills, get paid and get on in life.
Cambridge Regional College can help you find the job that's right for you and put you in touch with employers who want to employ you. We often have immediate vacancies available – so if you're not sure what you want to do, then give us a ring.
If you already have a job and you'd like to do an Apprenticeship then we can help set it up with your employer and see you through the training programme. Your desire to succeed is just as important as formal entry requirements and hard work and enthusiasm will help you achieve your goal.
In most cases, you will work four days a week and attend College either on a day or block release basis. Apprentices are paid a minimum of £2.60 an hour by their employer and are entitled to paid holidays and other benefits.

Parents
There are no set entry requirements for Apprenticeship programmes, although Apprentices can't have a degree or be in full-time education. The Skills Funding Agency covers the cost of training so you don't have to - young people aged from 16 to 18 are fully-funded, while Apprentices aged 19 and over require employer contributions.
If your son or daughter already has a job, they can still do an Apprenticeship with the support of their employer. Apprentices work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills and also receive training with Cambridge Regional College, usually on a day-release basis. We run a free Shuttle Bus Service during term time for both full-time and part-time students, picking up from the railway station and Emmanuel Street.
Like other employees, Apprentices are given at least 20 days paid holiday per year as well as bank holidays. They are paid a minimum of £2.60 an hour, earning while they are learning and gaining practical and transferable skills. Career progression for Apprentices is excellent and over the course of their career they can earn far more than those who don't do an Apprenticeship.
You will not get Child Benefit if your child is doing an 'advanced' education course. However, some local councils offer reduction on council tax for Apprentices. We would advise you to contact your local council authority.
