Harry Williamson
Former Hairdressing Apprentice at CRC and now successful salon owner of HALO in Sawston."I had learnt about apprenticeships at school and wanted to be a hairdresser. However, there was so much stigma attached to men going into women's jobs and it was looked down on that I felt I could not go into that line of work. I went into a more 'manly' apprenticeship in the printmaking industry but knew this was not my true vocation.
As I become older and more confident with my own ability, I decided to stop listening to other people and go with my gut instinct. I applied for the Hairdressing Apprenticeship at Cambridge Regional College and have never looked back since.
I completed my Hairdressing Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship as a student at Cambridge Regional College. During that time, I worked in two different salons, building up a successful client lists, gaining valuable experience and skills for my chosen industry.
Now I have opened my own salon, HALO in Sawston, with another former CRC hairdressing student, Steven Burry. HALO is a growing business and we have taken on our own apprentice. It will be good for our business and give them the opportunities I had.
It shows that just by realising your own potential and having the right training opportunity through the Apprenticeship programme you can achieve your goals."
