Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships

Not just a job - a career

Apprenticeships are designed to give you a great start to your career, offering the opportunity for practical experience and training while earning a wage and working towards industry-recognised qualifications.

Our experienced department is currently helping over 700 young people to gain their Apprenticeship and start building a happy and successful career.

You will need to be employed within your chosen area and have the support of your employer to start at Apprenticeship. If you can't find an employer, we may be able to help, as we often have immediate vacancies available.

Our Work Based Learning Advisers will help you find a job, decide which course is right for you and at what level you should begin. Your desire to succeed is just as important as formal entry requirements, but we strongly advise you to get the best GCSE grades that you can. Good grades will not only help you get on to an Apprenticeship but may mean that you are exempt from some qualifications within the Apprenticeship framework. Should you have additional learning needs or require specialist equipment then we have staff and resources to help you.

In most cases, you will work four days a week and attend College either on a day or block release basis. Your programme will be planned on an individual basis and will take into account your commitment to participate with hard work and enthusiasm to achieve your agreed learning objectives.

Some Apprenticeships include a technical certificate studied in College to improve your knowledge and understanding of your chosen field as well as improving your Key Skills such as Communication, Numeracy, Information Technology and Problem Solving.

Apprentices are paid a wage by the employer. Under the National Minimum Wage this is a minimum of £2.50 per hour. Your employer is required to give you a contract of employment, which will include holiday entitlement and all other benefits.
